What is an XAPK?
An XAPK is a ZIP container that bundles everything an app needs in one download. Large games and modern apps often ship this way because Google Play delivers them as split APKs plus extra data.
- Split APKs — a base APK plus pieces for your screen density, language, and CPU architecture
- OBB data — large game assets (graphics, audio) stored in
Android/obb/<package> - manifest.json — a small file describing the package name and version
Install with a bundle installer
- 1Download the fileCheck that the package name and version match the app page before opening it.
- 2Open it with a trusted installerUse a reputable open-source split-APK installer. Avoid tools that ask for SMS, contacts, or Accessibility.
- 3Allow the install sourceGrant “Install unknown apps” to the installer only, and revoke it afterwards.
- 4Wait for OBB copyingBig games can take a few minutes. Keep the screen on and don’t close the installer.
Manual install (APK + OBB)
If the XAPK contains a single APK and an OBB folder, you can install it by hand:
- Rename the file from
.xapkto.zipand extract it with the Files app - Install the
.apkfile inside - Move the folder named after the package (for example
com.example.game) intoAndroid/obb/ - Open the game — it should load without downloading data again
Fixing common errors
“App not installed”
Usually a signature conflict with an existing version, a downgrade, or a missing split for your device. Uninstall the old version (back up first) or choose a build that matches your architecture.
Game asks to download data again
The OBB folder is in the wrong place or named incorrectly. It must sit at Android/obb/<exact package name>/.
Not enough storage
Bundles need room for the download, the extracted files, and the installed app. Free at least twice the file size before you start.
